Releases 3D Linux Graphics Software Update Update boosts performance, stability and number of cards supported DENVER Xi Graphics Inc. (www.xig.com) has released as v1.1 the first major update to its new 3D graphics product line for Linux. The update, which is free to registered owners of the product, provides significant performance improvements and increased stability. "We have made impressive strides in performance and in the number of cards supported," said David H. Methvin, Xi Graphics president and CEO. "Considering the size of the 3D effort and the many different graphics platforms supported, we knew there were areas that would need some improvements and told customers to expect frequent and substantial updates. The first update provides improvements in many areas of the X server body as well as in code specific to certain graphics cards. A detailed presentation of the changes can be found at http://www.xig.com/Pages/3D-Update1.1.html. Xi Graphics introduced the 3D for Linux product line in December 1999 as the first OpenGL compliant 3D graphics support software available for use with Linux. The initial release of the boxed product supported more than 30 graphics cards. Linux Graphics Drivers (LGDs) - the downloadable form of the 3D product line - were introduced as a pilot program in February with support for a list of seven graphics cards. That list has increased to more than a dozen cards, and new ones are added regularly. Each LGD is a complete 3D Accelerated-X Display Server with graphics support for a specific card. The current list of available downloadable drivers is available at http://www.xig.com/Pages/3D-LGD-List.html. - more - Xi Graphics Inc.
